Welcome to College Living -
Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas!
There's
no living like College Living in Northwest Arkansas!
College Living is devoted to the unique and exciting college town experience -- those relatively small American cities whose
cultural landscape is shaped by the presence of a major college or university. Our flagship venture is Fayetteville, Arkansas, home of the
University of Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas rests on a former hilltop farm overlooking the Ozark Mountains to
the south. At the University’s founding in 1871, the site in Fayetteville was described as "second to none in the state of Arkansas."
That description remains accurate today.
Every graduating student at the University of Arkansas has their name carved into one of
the concrete walkways or sidewalks on campus. This tradition was started by the first graduating class, who chiselled their
names into the walkway in front of Old Main, the oldest building on campus. As the campus has grown, and the graduating
classes have gotten bigger, various years with the names listed afterwards can be found on almost every walkway on campus.
Fayetteville has a population of 58,000 (according to the 2000 census.) The Northwest Arkansas metropolitan area (including all
of Washington and Benton counties) has a population exceeding 300,000, and is one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S., primarily
due to the influence of the region's two largest employers: Wal-Mart (headquartered in Bentonville) and Tyson Foods
(headquartered in Springdale.)
